On this journey to engineering I've been asked multiple times what kind of engineer do I want to be. My general answer has been to be a Systems Engineer with a focus on Sustainablity. This sounds nice, but I always still felt unsatisfied with it. I tried to narrow it to product development, but what kind of product? I envisioned making manufacturing processes greener "somehow" and contributing to the minimization of destruction and waste.
All noble ideas, but what does this have to do with Trump Tower? Well, as stated in my previous post, I joked that I want to be Ivanka Trump. After reading her book, Trump Card, I too was allured to the idea of luxury real estate development. Does this conflict with my sustainability ideals? Can luxury and "being green" coexist? Both deep questions that I have to answer, but, since I'm far from signing any employment contract with Trump I'll tackle that moral conundrum when I potentially have to cross that gilded road. In the meantime I think that its more important that I've found a brand and an industry that I can attach my name to. How so, you ask?
Saying that I'm going to be a Systems Engineer for The Trump Organization is a lot clearer and more precise than my previous responses. Its a concrete goal, and it lets people know that I know exactly what I want. And I know that I have a deep set admiration for people who know exactly what they want and how they're going to get it, a trait I try to exercise myself. Plus, getting dressed for the day takes on a whole new feeling when I imagine myself as a Trump employee. I carry myself differently when I walk down the street, and I'm more focused throughout the day. I see my education as a preliminary training camp requirement that my eventual employment is contingent upon. And if I ever feel a little too lazy to put in the study time I ask myself "What would Ivanka think?"
